The rapid growth of mobile websites and mobile applications has given rise to standardization and ecosystem issues. The World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) created the Mobile Web Initiative to assist with these standardization challenges.
The W3C has recently released standard best practices for creating smarter mobile Web applications that are easily deployable and work across multiple platforms.
According to the W3C, “the term Web application refers to a Web page (XHTML or a variant thereof + CSS) or collection of Web pages delivered over HTTP which use server-side or client-side processing (e.g. JavaScript) to provide an application-like experience within a Web browser.”
The best practices document includes useful suggestions for managing mobile application data, security and privacy, user experience and much more.
This document is an excellent resource for those companies considering creating or modifying a mobile Web application.
